Chaucer Foods handed solution to palm oil waste
Global ingredients business Chaucer Foods has put an end to problems of palm oil waste thanks to their work with Food Processing Faraday. As well as doing their bit for the environment, they have made savings in excess of £30k per annum.

A 'smart' way to increase shelf life
There are smiles all round at Biofresh Ltd after an increase in revenue resulting from input from Food Processing Faraday as part of their Northern Food Industry Innovation Network (NFIIN). NFIIN, a collaborative initiative to encourage innovation and research in the food and drink sector, provided funding to support a feasibility study which underpinned the creation of the biofresh smartpallet® - a self-contained rechargeable Europallet facilitating the in-transit treatment of fresh produce. The unit maintains prescribed levels of ozone in the storage atmosphere to curb microbial spoilage and extend shelf-life.

The Spice is Right for Pataks
Patak’s bid to guarantee consistency in their sauces and marinades is hotting up thanks to collaboration with Food Processing Faraday The determination of heat is vital for Patak’s, creators of authentic ethnic foods, as customers expect a certain standard level of heat according to the classification of a curry. Chilli is a natural ingredient so its level of heat can vary, posing problems in maintaining consistent spiciness.

Sapcote Engineering qualify for the cut
Food Processing Faraday has helped Sapcote Engineering Limited develop an innovative laser cutting system to aid process control at Melton Foods, part of the Samworth Group, one of the country’s leading food groups. Melton Foods were experiencing high wastage on their wrap producing lines due to inaccurate cutting. To put an end to their problems David Walklate, Innovation Consultant at the Faraday, introduced them to Sapcote Engineering who he believed would be able to find them the best solution.

Scotland proves best in the eyes of Nairns
Edinburg based Nairns were keen to address technical issues which would lead to increasing the shelf life of their oatcakes and decreasing saturated fat levels. Successful intervention through product innovation would impact positively on their export market and grow business.

Selection of the fittest
Better looking vegetables sell more. Retailers know this and want the best possible visual appearance in on shelf packs. The most attractive are more likely to be selected by the consumer, with the unattractive examples less likely to sell. How can attractive and unnatractive products be separated in the factory?

AB Produce flying high with first class procedures
AB Produce is developing first class procedures thanks to help from Food Processing Faraday and the Food and Drink Forum, with both companies building on their successful collaboration from the ChIEFS project (Championing Innovation between the Engineering and Food Sectors).Through an Innovation Support Grant (ISG) AB Produce were able to access the expertise of the Faraday’s Innovation Consultant David Walklate and the Forum’s Manufacturing Innovation Manager Emma Swinscoe. Their experience enabled them to deliver a plan to improve process flows, control and efficiency with the ‘prep’ area of the factory. This would mean AB Produce could then grow on solid foundations.

The cap fits thanks to Food Processing Faraday
Mixicap, a start up packaging firm, has experienced first hand how working with the Faraday can turn business dreams into reality.Amrik Pannu, Managing Director of Mixicap, has invented a multi-flavour cap for use with bottled water and other products. The cap will allow the user to select one of three flavours to add to their plain water. Through Innovation Consultant Linda Roberts, the Faraday procided the vital step in working with Amrik to apply for funding to carry out the necessary design work.
